Mamie Vandevender

Mamie Ellen (Wimer) Vandevender, 80, died Thursday, March 28, 1996 at her residence.

She was born July 31, 1915, at Highland County, a daughter of Lewis Andrew and Almeda May (Sponaugle) Wimer.

On December 28, 1930, she was married to Russell Lee Vandevender, who survives.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Delmer D. of Monterey and Robert W. Vandevender of Shenandoah Nursing Home, Fishersville; two grandson, Jeffrey D. and Darren L. Vandevender of Monterey; six sisters, Gretta Simmons of Elkins, WV, Blanche Propst and Annabelle Wiseman, both of Newport News, Jean Allen and Stella Suddarth, both of Stuarts Draft and Dorothy Cash of Waynesboro; two step-grandsons, Rick Raines of Harrisonburg and Nathen Dove Jr. of Riverton, WV; and two step-great-grandsons, Bret and Logan Raines of Harrisoburg; a half-sister Patricia Berry of Churchville; a stepbrother, Kenton Wimer of Staunton; a stepmother, Lona Wimer of Staunton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, three brothers and one half-brother.

A service will be conducted at 2 p.m .Sunday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Revs. Levin Colburn and Donald Rose with burial in Blue Grass Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Orion Beverage, Dale Puffenbarger, Sammy Rohrbaugh, Albert Simmons, Henry Harper, Austin Shepher, George Lovegrove and Gary Vandevender.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 1230 p.m. Sunday until the time of service.
