Mack Edward Ratcliffe, 74, died Tuesday, August 12, 1997 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
He was born on August 6, 1923, in Mustoe, the son of the late Edward Wayland and Edith McLuaghlin Ratcliff.
He was a member of Victory Chapel Advent Christian Church. He was a World War II veteran in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the Highland County Burial Detail. He was a member of the Highland County Fair Association. He retired from Gutshall's Exxon station after 22 years of service. He was avid horse lover and participated on horseback in the Highland County Fair Parade for 44 years.
Surviving are his wife Frances Carpenter Ratcliffe of Monterey; son, Eugene Edward Ratcliffe of Monterey; daughter, Ellen Marie Corbett of Randallstown. Md.; sister Meredith Romaine Ratcliff of Monterey, brother Kyle Kenton Ratcliff of Hot Springs; grandson, Gregory Edward Ratcliffe of Mayport, Fla.; two granddaughters, Penney Denise Simmons and Pamala Marie King of Randallstown, Md.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 16 at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Donald Rose, assisted by the Rev. Jerry Ginn. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:30-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Monterey Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be the Highland County Burial Detail consisting of Col. Jim Cobb, Richard Waybright, Herb Lightner, Steve Stevenson, Marty Corbett, Gary Hull, Perry Warner, Al Woodson, Tom Pitsenbarger, John Wright, Rebecca Walker, Jessica Roach, Brian Holloway and Richard Stuber. Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.
