Lyle Douglas Chestnut, 51, of Harrisonburg, died Monday night, September 13, 1993 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
He was born October 21, 1941 in Monterey and was a son of Mrs. Icie Gutshall Chestnut of Monterey and the late James Otis Chestnut Sr.
He married the former Jean Harper, who survives of Harrisonburg.
Mr. Chestnut was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Harrisonburg Elks Club, and the Eureka Masonic Lodge No. 195 in Bridgewater. He had worked for Reynolds Metal Company since April 1963.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Karen and Bobby Cox of Charlottesville and Dr. Lisa Chestnut of Richmond; son, Dale Chestnut of Harrisonburg; grandson, Michael Cox of Charlottesville; four sisters, Christine Chestnut and Juanita Thompson, both of Staunton, Anita Cauley of Hot Springs and Illa Claytor of Clifton Forge; four brothers, Carl of Dunmore, WV, Darrell of Verona, Lowell of Dale City and Bobby Chestnut of Stephens City.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, James Otis Chestnut Jr., Curtis Elwood Chest and Stewart Chestnut.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Thursday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Ronald E.H. Faus and the Rev. Robert Haley. Burial will follow in Monterey with Masonic Rites.
Active pallbearers will be E.N. Pugh, Ernest Hiner, Ernest Sweitzer Jr., Benny Armstrong, Bobby Eppard, Oliver Burkeholder, Gary Campbell and David Berry.
Honorary pallbearers will be Masons and friends attending.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland Medical Center, 120 Jackson River Road., Monterey, Va. 24465.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at First Church of the Brethren in Harrisonburg by the Rev. Ronald E.H. Faus.
