Lucy May (Hicklin) Howdyshell, 82, of McDowell, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Augusta Health Care.
She was born in McDowell on May 3, 1936, a twin daughter to the late Twila (Phillips) and Rosser Stuart Hicklin.
Lucy was a member of McDowell Presbyterian Church and had worked at Aileen Sewing Factory and Hanover Shoe Factory.
Lucy will be remembered for her love of sewing and gardening, especially her hundreds of healthy tomato, pepper and cabbage plants that she would start from seed each year in her windowsill. Her greatest joy was the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren teaching them her green thumb secrets.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two husbands, William Andrew Neil and Alfred Howdyshell; son, Thomas Andrew Neil; brother, Lee Hicklin; two sisters, Martha Jenkins and Sue Howdyshell.
She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Stuart and Glenna Neil and David and Franny Neil; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and John Wright, all of McDowell; step-children, Ina Turner and husband, Eddie of Swoope, Rachel McElwee of Hot Springs, Betty Schooler of Staunton and Faye Harold of Warrenton; her twin sister, Lucille Neil of McDowell; sister Marie Eisenhower of Selma; grandchildren, Amy Good and husband, Tim, Timmy Neil and wife, Meagan, Carrie Hofflinger and husband, Jon, Kevin Neil and wife, Keri, and Katie Wright; 12 great-grandchildren, Zalea, Elijah, Amelia, Creed, Hensley, Lane, Lexi, Tori, Noah, Kristina, Kaden and Kolyn.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Obaugh Funeral Home.
