MONTEREY, VA Lucinda Hiner Beverage, age 95, of Monterey, passed away Friday, September 5, 2014 at Westport Rehabilitation Center in Richmond. Ms. Beverage was born January 1, 1919, in Monterey, a daughter of the late Isaac Luther and Clara Hester (Seybert) Beverage. A lifelong educator, Ms. Beverage earned her bachelor's degree from Madison College (now JMU) and her master's from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech). Following graduation Lucinda taught in Rockingham County, but shortly returned to Monterey. There, she began work in the Highland County School System and continued there until her retirement over forty years later. Additionally, Ms. Beverage was a member of Monterey United Methodist Church. Ms. Beverage was proceeded in death by five brothers, Seybert, James, Nicholas ,and Albert Beverage as well as brother, John Beveridge; 2 sisters, Virginia Beverage and Rebecca Mohney. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Millie Beverage of Richmond; a sister-in-law, Jayne Beverage of Staunton, and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m., Monday, September 8, 2014 in Monterey Cemetery with Pastor Bobbie Jo Gardner officiating.
