Lillie May Moats, 88, died on Sunday, August 31, 1997 at Augusta Medical Center.
She was born on June 25, 1909 in Highland County, a daughter of Renick and Ida (Malcolm) McCray.
She was a member of the Hiner Brethren Church at McDowell.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Homer Smith; her second husband, Grover Cleveland Moats on August 8, 1990; son, Gilbert Moats and daughter Margie Van Pelt.
Surviving are three daughters, Virginia Simmons and Betty Woolridge, both of Churchville and Lucy Koiner of Staunton; four sons, Byron of Mt. Solon, James Ed of Churchville, Cleveland Dune Moats of Woodbridge and Williams Smith of Staunton; sister, Rebecca Smith of Mt. Solon; 28 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Dennis Sites with burial in Totten Chapel Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tim Eckard, Randy Arehart, Homer Moats and Junior and Mike Simmons and David Hanger.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. tonight at Obaugh Funeral Home and at Bobby Riley's residence in Staunton and Virginia Simmons' residence in Churchville at other times.
