Leta Belle Simmons, 91, of Monterey, died Saturday, July 14, 2007 in Fredericksburg.
She was born September 1, 1915 at Doe Hill a daughter of the late Ernest William and Hannah Catherine (Hise) Mitchell.
Mrs. Simmons was a member of Beulah Presbyterian Church. She had worked at The Homestead and retired from Aileen, Inc.
On April 8, 1933, she married Thomas Simmons, who preceded her in death on September 4, 1984. She was also predeceased by five brothers, Harvey, Vaiden, Terry, Bill and Wesley Mitchell.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lillian and Garland Dever of Monterey; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas J. and Dollie Simmons of Woodbridge and Wallace C. and Norine Simmons of Dunmore, WV; two sisters-in-law, Irene Mitchell of Churchville and Iva Simmons of Woodbridge; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. C. William “Bill” Cox.
Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dennis, Mitch, Jeffrey and Jimmy Simmons and Tommy and Gene Dever. Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
