Leslie Zero Nichols, 83, of McDowell, died Sunday, June 20, 2004 at his residence.
He was born Nov. 16, 1920 at Brevard, N.C., a son of the late Zero Whalen Jr. and Ottilie Amelia Optiz Nichols.
Mr. Nichols served in the U.S. Navy. He was an elevator mechanic in the Washington, D.C. area and was a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors, Local #10.
On October 8, 1941, he married Frances Louise Martin Nichols, who preceded him in death on October 7, 1995. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Howard Nichols and a sister, Dorothy Louise Story.
He is survived by two daughters, Connie Elaine Bruce of Annandale, N.J. and Jean Marie McCutchan of Missouri; four sons, Renn Edward Nichols of Warrenton, Bobby Lee Nichols of Manassas, Gary Leslie Nichols of Broad Run and James Howard Nichols of Warrenton; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and a brother, Frederick Patrick Nichols.
The body was cremated.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 26, at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Lester LaPrade.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
