Leslie Sterling Napier, 77, of McDowell, went to be with his Savior on Tuesday, October 12, 2004.
He was born March 10, 1927 at Drakes Branch, a son of the late Otis James and Manche Ovelia Lewis Napier.
He spent 21 months in the occupation of army medics in Italy during World War II. He was a graduate of Bryan College, Dayton, Tenn., with a BA in history. He received a M.Ed. from the University of Virginia. He was a bi-vocational pastor. He pastored for 10 years at Alum Spring Baptist Church near Culpeper, 20 years at the Upperville Baptist Church in Upperville, followed by 10 years at Calvary Baptist Church at Millboro Springs. He taught in public schools in Culpeper and Fairfax counties for 26 years.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Della; two daughters, Rebecca Mummau of Riner and Ruth Starkey of Minden, La.; two sons, Sammy Napier of Upperville and Danny Napier of McDowell; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 16, at the Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Tom Stanley.
Burial will be in the Calvary Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Obaugh Funeral Home.
