Leona Botkin

March 18, 1943 — July 11, 2009

Leona H. Botkin, 66, of Monterey, died Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Bath Community Hospital.  She was born March 18, 1943 in Franklin, WV a daughter of the late Robert Paul and Ella C. (Lambert) Hartman.

Mrs. Botkin was a homemaker and had worked at Aileen Inc.  She was a member of Hiner Church of the Brethren and an honorary member and past president of Stonewall Ruritan Club.  She loved to babysit for her granddaughter, Josey.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Berlie May Botkin on November 22, 1990 and her second husband, Roger Dale Botkin on March 11, 2009. She was also predeceased by a brother, Theodore Hartman and two infant brothers.

She is survived by three daughters, Bonnie and Diana Botkin, both of Monterey, and Jenny Botkin and Buckner Bolling of Bolar; a son, Berlie Jr. and Sherry Botkin of Scottsville; five grandchildren, Josey Bolling, Ellie, Talan, Karsyn and Cooper Botkin; two sisters, Diane and Jimmy Waybright of Franklin, WV and Christine and Ronnie Bowers of Sugar Grove, WV and six brothers, Bobby Hartman, Luther and  Ann Hartman and Dan Hartman, all of Franklin, WV, David and Debbie Hartman of Hinton, Henry and Dawn Hartman of Grottoes and William and Retha Hartman of Tennessee.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with the Rev. Garold Senger and Rev. Jack Tucker officiating.  Burial will be in Blue Grass Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Glenn and Travis Halterman, David Neil, Charles Varner, Leo Schwartz, David Coe, Darryl Wagner, Gary Rexrode, Dr. Daniel Freed and Steve Goode.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Obaugh Funeral Home and other times at Leona’s home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Highland County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 268, Monterey, VA or Highland Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 267, Monterey, VA 24465.
