Leo Marsh McCray, 85, of McDowell, died Monday, June 30, 2003 at Augusta Medical Center. He was born August 2, 1917 at Head Waters a son of the late Owen Reese and Louie Viola Armstrong McCray.
Mr. McCray was a member of the McDowell Presbyterian Church and a past member of the McDowell Volunteer Fire Department. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater. Mr. McCray was a farmer and an avid hunter. He retired as a superintendent with the Virginia Department of Transportation after 40 years of service.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Porter, Charles, Peyton and Earl McCray and five sisters, Ogretta Phillips, Lucy Botkin, Gertrude Warner, Elizabeth Hicklin and Anna Lou Ralston.
He was the last member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pearl Armstrong McCray of McDowell; a daughter and son-in-law, Frances and James Bird of Cypress, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby B. and Carolyn McCray of McDowell, a grandson Michael Blair McCray and wife, Tracey, of McDowell; and a granddaughter, Jamie Jeter and husband, Gary, of Cypress, Texas.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m.., Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Lester LaPrade.
Burial will be private.
There will be no formal visitation.
Friends may call at the funeral home and at the residence.
