Lawrence Hiner Blagg, 87, of Mill Gap, died Tuesday, December 28, 1999 at his residence.

He was born September 1, 1912, at Doe Hill, a son of Abner Joshua and Elsie Virginia (Wilson) Blagg.

He married Abbie Briscoe on December 23, 1950.

He was a farmer, a member of Beulah Presbyterian Church, a 60-year member of Highland Masonic Lodge No. 110, member of Mill Gap Ruritan Club, Highland-Bath Cattle Association and Highland Wool Producers and served on board of directors Highland Telephone Cooperative. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the European theater and the Normandy Invasion.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Abbie Briscoe Blagg; a brother, Samuel Blagg of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Betty Jane Robertson of Oakton; a sister-in-law, Margaret Blagg of Doe Hill’ nieces and nephews; and a special neighbor, Myra Lowry.

A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Revs. James W. Moore and Jerry Ginn, with Masonic Rites following with burial in Monterey Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Allen, Brad and June Lowry, George Bird, Dick McDuffie, Ralph Pullin, Joe Simmons and Junior Rosencrance. Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
