MONTEREY, VA Lavenia "Beany" (Vance) Bird, 100, went to be with the Lord Friday, May 23, 2014 at Augusta Health.She was born on Nov.24, 1913 in McDowell a daughter of the late John W. and Ruth (Crouch) Vance. Mrs. Bird was a livestock farmer and a member of Monterey Presbyterian Church. Lavenia found joy in dancing and time spent visiting with family and her many friends. Overall, she will be remembered as having devoted life to farm and family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Bird; brothers, Lohr and Bruce Vance; sisters, Josephine Hauge, Helen Vance, Irene Michael, Jean McKenna, and Janet Dunn. Surviving family members include nephews, Ricky Dunn and wife, Mary of Kenbridge, Gary Dunn and wife, Kathy of Christiansburg, Robin Vance and wife, Nancy of McDowell, and John Vance of McDowell; nieces, Jean Hoechst and husband, Bill of Apopka FL, Jackie Alexandrow and husband, Nick of Springfield, Bea Heatwole and husband, Daryl of Weyers Cave, and Ilane Batten and husband, Chip of Waynesboro, as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. A celebration of life will be held conducted 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Obaugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Melissa Litrel Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in Monterey Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ricky Dunn, Gary Dunn, John Vance, Robin Vance, Nicky Alexandrow, and Buddy Hunt. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Additionally, the room will remain open throughout the day and into the evening on Monday for friends to pay their respects.
