Larry Mason Ryder, 76, of Warm Springs, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2020 at the Salem Veteran Affairs Medical Center.
He was born in Bath County on October 19, 1943, a son of the late Charles William and Mabel Blanche (Martin) Ryder.
A proud veteran, Larry served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he was wounded in combat and awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of Chimney Run Church of the Brethren and worked as a carpenter at The Homestead, retiring after more than 30 years of employment. During his retirement he loved time spent with his many pets, including his nine raccoons, as well as socializing and playing cards at Chimney Run Garage. Above all, he will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, golf and especially, fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Ryder; and a brother-in-law, Calvin Robertson.
Larry is survived by a brother, Charles Ryder and wife, Sandy of Warm Springs; four sisters, Betty Robertson of Warm Springs, Phoebe Stanley and husband, Hal of Alleyton, TX; Judy Ryder of Warm Springs and Ella Rexrode and husband, Frank of Warm Springs; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The staff of Obaugh Funeral Home will receive those wishing to pay their respects throughout the day Sunday, May 3rd, between the hours of 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Taking governmental recommendations into consideration the family will hold a graveside service with military honors in Warm Springs Cemetery, with Pastor Donald Lee Altizer officiating.
