Kenton Kincaid “K.K.” Simmons, 64, of Monterey, died Saturday, August 30, 2003 at his residence.
He was born May 12, 1939 at Blue Grass, a son of the late Luther C. and Willie Pence Simmons.
Mr. Simmons was a member of the Blue Grass United Methodist Church and was a past president of the Blue Grass Ruritan Club. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. Mrs. Simmons was a self-employed contractor. He worked for 17 years in Northern Virginia for Gregory Construction as a superintendent and retired from Rexrode Masonry in Monterey.
He was an avid outdoorsman.
On November 30, 1963, he married Shirley June Newcomb Ferrell, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Nancy S. Swecker.
He is survived by a beloved step-son, Howard Don Ferrell of Monterey; a sister Charlotte S. Schooler of Blue Grass; three brothers Luther C. “Jack” Simmons, Jr. of Blue Grass, E. Douglas Simmons of Stuarts Draft and Carl Lee Simmons of Blue Grass and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at the Blue Grass United Methodist Church by the Rev. Richard S. Gibson, the Rev. Jack Schooler and the Rev. Andre Crummett.
Burial will be in the Blue Grass Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Charles Emerson Schooler, Lucas Kincaid Schooler, Carl Stuart Simmons, Wilton Lee Simmons, George Benjamin Schooler and Tony Stinnett.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Hammer, Austin Shepherd, Jerry Rexrode, William Niswander, Roy Gutshall, Elmer Arrington, Jack Beverage, Frank Ritchie, David Kiser, Dick Eagle, George Swecker, Kenny Leonard and Nick Pugh.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at Obaugh Funeral Home.
