Justin Mines

Justin Curtis Mines, 19, died Thursday, February 21, 2002 at Alkin, N.C., from a job related accident.

He was born October 21, 1982, at Harrisonburg, a son of French Timothy and Debra Lynn Bennett Mines.

He was a member of Totten Chapel United Methodist Church, and he attended McKendree United Methodist Church. He graduated in the Class of 2000 from Turner Ashby High School. While in high school, was a member of the Future Farmers of America. He was active in 4-H and showed livestock at the Rockingham County Fair. After graduation from high school, he joined the Turner Ashby Young Farmers. He earned a degree in welding at Massanutten Technical Center. While attending high school, he worked part-time at Silver Lake Welding Service Inc. After graduation from high school, he worked full time. He was an Emergency Medical Technician; he was a member of Singers Glenn Volunteer Fire Department for two years and a member of the Singers Glen Volunteer Rescue Squad for three years.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Jessica Mines, and his great-grandparents, Curtis and Alpha Bennett, French and Fannie Moats, Ida and John Cunningham and Annabelle and Brock Mines.

Surviving are his parents; his maternal grandparents, Paul and Nancy Bennett of Moyers, W.Va.; his paternal grandparents, Jim and Helen Mines of Dayton; his fiancé, Kelly Shipp of Linville; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Obaugh Funeral Home with the Revs. Dave Boger and Charles Townsend officiating. Burial will be in Totten Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be members of the Singers Glen Volunteer Fire Department.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Singers Glen Volunteer Rescue Squad and Bob Blahnik, Roy Ellinger and Jake Moyers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
