Jr. Pugh

Monterey Edward Nicholas "Nicky" Pugh, Jr., age 75, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Bath Community Hospital. He was born May 31, 1938 in the Meadowdale community of Highland County to the late Edward Nicholas and Eleanor Elizabeth (Stephenson) Pugh. He was a member of Pisgah Presbyterian Church. Mr. Pugh was preceded in the death by his wife, Bonnie Clair (Newcomb) Pugh on Nov. 22, 1996, as well as an infant son, Edward Newcomb Pugh. Nicky served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-58 and reenlisted in 1960 after serving as a trooper with the Virginia State Police. Prior to returning to Monterey Nicky worked for Space Conditioning in Harrisonburg, as well as several jobs in Highland before his lengthy employment with Southern States and Rockingham Cooperative in Monterey. Additionally, Nicky was a livestock farmer who enjoyed time spent on his farm and tending to his cattle. He is survived by his daughter, Marion Hope (Pugh) Pjesky and husband, Ryan of Goltry, OK. Nicky's little dog "Buddy" also survives. A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m., Monday, November 25, 2013 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with the Rev. Andre Crummett and speaker Don Ferrell officiating. Interment will follow in Monterey Cemetery. Active pallbearers include Mike and Eric Ralston, Jerry Shifflett, Mike Hilbert, Robert Lambert, Jr., William Stephenson, Ernie Hise, Melvin Rexrode, Don Ferrell, Gibby and David Crummett. Honorary pallbearers are R. Leo "Tuck" Gum, Kathy Griffin, Frank Stephenson, Doug Gutshall, Holmes, Jim and Ben Stephenson, as well as Perry Huffer, III. Friends may call throughout the day Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Obaugh Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Highland County Rescue Squad, P.O.
