John "Herb" Hoover

August 13, 1919 — March 27, 2003

John Herbert “Herb” Hoover, 83 of Harrisonburg, and formerly of Doe Hill, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Hoover was born Aug. 13, 1919, in Doe Hill, and was a son of the late Cameron William and Bertie Snyder Hoover.

He was a member of the Highland Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was a farmer and a self-employed carpenter and mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Leona Irene Simmons Hoover; three daughters, Bettie Pryor of Vienna, Ann Lotts of Mantua, Ohio, and Sue Burow of Springfield; two brothers, Bill Hoover of Staunton and Ellis Hoover of Moyers, W.Va.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pastor Elmer Malcolm will conduct a memorial service at 2 p.m. Monday at Obuagh Funeral Home, when the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be private.
