John Wooddell

John Harding Wooddell, 77, of Head Waters, formerly of Verona, died Wednesday, January 13, 1999, at the V.A. Medical Center in Salem.

He was born June 5, 1921, in Highland County a son of Arlie and Dora (Malcolm) Wooddell.

His wife, Artie (Judy) Wooddell, preceded him in death on December 15, 1987.

Mr. Wooddell retired from the McGuire Veterans Hospital after 23 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, being awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze and Silver Medals for heroism above and beyond the call of duty. He belonged to VFW Post 10826 in Verona.

Her is survived by a nephew, Nelson Simmons of Head Waters and a great-niece, Donna Kay White of Verona. Mr. Wooddell was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Iva Wooddell and Christina W. Simmons.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 16, in the Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton by the Rev. Garold W. Senger Jr.
