John Sponaugle

May 3, 1918 — March 30, 1996

John Andrew Sponaugle, 77, died on Saturday, March 30, 1996 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

He was born on May 3, 1918 at Cave, WV, a son of Harry Henton and Ollie H. Harper Sponaugle.

He was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church, the American Legion and Stonewall Ruritan Club. He was a veteran of World War II and a livestock and poultry farmer.

Surviving are his widow, Emma (Hevener) Sponaugle; a daughter, Anna Gail Hartbarger of Nokesville; three sons, John H. of Grottoes, James K. and Harry Sponaugle, both of Doe Hill; a sister, Mary E. Propst of Moyers, WV; three brothers, Earl of Franklin, WV, Omar H. of Mt. Solon and Calvin C. Sponaugle of Phillipi, WV; and nine grandchildren.

A service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Revs. Timothy Strock, Rufus O'Quinn and Samuel Sponaugle, with burial in Blue Grass Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Greg Mitchell, Randy and Jeffrey Sponaugle, Lester Propst Jr., Dwight and Paul R. Hevener, Rudolph Siron and Gary Wimer.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
