John Eaphram Simmons, 81, of West Augusta, died Friday, June 20, 2003 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.
He was born May 7, 1922 in Vandevander, a son of the late Ira and Mary Magdalene Wolfe Simmons.
Mr. Simmons retired after 29 years of service from the U.S. Army, having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He has also worked for Brown and Williamson in Petersburg. He was a member of the West Augusta Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3060.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Roscoe, Ada, William, Jesse and Sandy Simmons, and three sisters, Eva ward, Edna Losh and Bertha wilfong.
He is survived by two sons, John L. Simmons and Frank N. Simmons and fiancé Jamie Tracy of Stafford; three grandchildren; a great-grandson and his former wife, Renate Paula Simmons of Franklin, Ga.
A graveside service was conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25 in the West Augusta Cemetery by the Rev. Robert VanGilder.
Pallbearers were members of the West Augusta VFW Post 3060.
