John Roscoe Simmons, 70, of McDowell, died on Saturday morning, May 7, 1994.
He was born on September 1, 1923 in Pendleton County, WV, a son of Robert Jacob and Louella (Simmons) Simmons.
He was a member of Hiner Brethren Church. He was a retired farmer and had retired in 1988 from Virginia Department of Transportation after 23 years employment. He served in the Army in World War II.
Surviving are his widow, Beulah (Ralston) Simmons of McDowell; a daughter, Donna Simmons Burns of Doe Hill; a foster daughter, Frances Riley of Covington; two sons, John M. Simmons of Blue Grass and Gary L. Simmons of Doe Hill; two sisters, Dorothy Simmons of Springs Nursing Home at Hot Springs and Bertha Moran of Staunton; two brothers, Jake of Roanoke and Graham Simmons of West Augusta; two grandchildren; and four foster grandsons.
A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. E.B. Shoemaker, with burial in McKendree Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Louie Smith, C.W. Hammer, Charles Varner, Steve and Lyle Wayne Armstrong, and Dale Beverage.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 tonight at the funeral home.
