John Lehman Moyers Sr., 75,, of Doe Hill, died Friday, January 11, 2002 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 19, 1926, in Pendleton County, W.Va., a son of the late Albert Lewis and Virginia Madge (Blagg) Moyers.
On June 29, 1946, he married Arleta J. Moyers.
Mr. Moyers was a long time dairy farmer. He was a member of the Doe Hill United Methodist church, past member of the Highland County Board of Supervisors, a charter member of the Stonewall Ruritan Club and past district governor of the Stonewall Ruritan Club. He was also a member of the Dairy Association for over 50 years and a charter member of the MGW Telephone Company.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judy Ann Moyers, and a sister, Lillian Hevener.
He is survived by his wife, Arleta J. Moyers of Doe Hill; three sons and daughters-in-law, John L. Jr. and Sharon Moyers of McDowell, Bert and Pat Moyers of Mount Crawford and Eddie and Kristie Moyers of Doe Hill; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille M. Maloy of McDowell and Glenna Ruth M. Graves of Harrisonburg; a brother Rembert D. Moyers of Moyers, W.Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, January 14 at the Doe Hill United Methodist Church by the Revs. Dave Boger and Charles Townsend. Burial will be in the Doe Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Bill Huffman, Junior Sweitzer, Mike Simmons, Jeff Herring, Dean Moyers, John Demastus, Mark Hartman and Robbie Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Stonewall Ruritan Club, Austin Shephard, Noel Hull, James Jones and Robert Holsinger.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 Sunday afternoon at Obaugh Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Doe Hill United Methodist Church, McDowell Volunteer Fire Department or the Highland County Rescue Squad.
