John Hiner

October 9, 1926 — January 30, 2002

John William Hiner, 75, of Monterey, died Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at his residence of complications arising from multiple myeloma.

He was born October 9, 1926 at Monterey, a son of the late John L and Laura Blanche Sipe Hiner.

He was a retired master brick mason and a farmer. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and working with his border collies and sheep. As a World War II veteran, he had served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater.

He was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers.

On January 29, 1955, he married Bebe Avernell Neal, who survives.

He is also survived by two sons, John Jeffrey Hiner, his wife Betty Gail and their daughter, Deidre of Monterey and Roger Neal Hiner of Christiansburg; a daughter, Susan Vyule and husband Benjamin and their son, Stuart of Christiansburg; two sisters, Irene Huffman and Pearl DeAscentis of the Back Creek community of Highland County and a brother, Thomas Hiner of Houston, Texas.

The Rev. Richard S. Gibson will conduct a service at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 3, 2002 at Obaugh Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Monterey Cemeterey.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Saturday evening at the funeral home.
