John A. Burke

John Allen Burke, 75, of the Back Creek Community of Highland, passed away, Monday, January 2, 2023 at his home.

He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., March 26, 1947, a son of the late John George and Eleanor (O’Hanlon) Burke. He married Susan Simpson, who predeceased him May 18, 2003.

Following his retirement as a detective with the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, he and his wife relocated to Highland County.  There he enjoyed hunting, his horses and reading. Additionally, John always had a lifelong interest in aviation, and fulfilled his life-long dream of becoming a licensed pilot and enjoyed many hours spent flying.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a brother.

John is survived by his daughter and her family; as well as one brother and two sisters.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
