Joan Pennell

February 13, 1926 — January 29, 2007

Joan O. Pennell, 80, of Monterey, died Monday, January 29, 2007 as the result of an automobile accident.  She was born February 13, 1926 in Baltimore, MD a daughter of John Thomas and Lenore (McCutcheon) Onley.

Mrs. Pennell was a member of Highland Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and Women on Mission.  She was past-treasurer of Little Rock Preschool and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.  Before becoming a homemaker, she worked for the Pan American Union in Washington, D.C. and later was an assistant librarian at Loudoun County High School.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Bass.

Mrs. Pennell was a loving and devoted wife and mother.  She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Alan C. Pennell of Monterey; a daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Michael Pace of Richmond; a son and daughter-in-law, Wade and Yvonne Pennell of Modest Town, and five grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan, Lauren and Nathan Pace and Aaron Taylor.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m., Saturday at Highland Baptist Church by the Rev. Mark Davis.  Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Brandon, Ryan and Nathan Pace, Larry Propst, Richard Bass and Pete Onley.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell.
