HEAD WATERS, VA
Jay Varner, 88, of Head Waters, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at his home. He was born September 13, 1927 in the Palo Alto community of Highland County a son of the late Charles Dayton and Lydia Nora (Losh) Varner.
Mr. Varner retired from the U.S. Air Force. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and always said his hobby was farming.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June Avril (Winchester) Varner; his son, Dwain Dayton Varner as well as his sister, Maybelline Ervine and three brothers, Virgil Varner, Sandy Varner and Bobby Varner.
Surviving family members include his daughter, Dawn Varner and companion, Chris Vernovai of Head Waters; son, Carl Varner and wife, Connie of Tucson, AZ; granddaughter, Carley Burja and husband, Tony; two great-grandchildren, Tony Carl Burja and Posie Michelle Burja; his brother, Elmo Varner and wife, Orpha of Head Waters and a number of nieces and nephews, including special nephews, Steve Varner and Glen Varner, and their families.
A memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m., Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Obaugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Dave Boger officiating. Inurnment will be private.
