Hot Springs

Janice Lee Phillips, 57, of Hot Springs and formerly of Indian Trail, N.C., passed away Monday, August 12, 2024 in Lewis Gale Hospital – Montgomery, Blacksburg.

She was born May 27, 1967 in Landsdale, Penn., a daughter of Barbara Kay (Patterson) Phillips of Hot Springs and the late Clark Phillips Jr.

Roman Catholic in faith, she was raised in and attended school at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Charlotte, N.C. After high school, Janice began her career working alongside her father at Phillips Machine Company. She enjoyed time spent fishing and hunting, as well as playing cards with family and friends. She loved traveling to the beach and visiting with family in the mountains of Virginia and West Virginia. Additionally, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, and camping.

Known as “Babe” to her family, she was the baby of the family and the lucky recipient of the extra attention that came with the title! She loved Halloween and always put extra effort into her costumes. Additionally, she loved music of all kinds, especially 80s classic rock.

Despite her recent decline in health, her family will always remember her as a down-to-earth person with a happy and outgoing spirit.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by a dear and special friend who Janice considered a daughter, Mandy Miller; as well as Mandy’s daughters, Jenna and Ava Miller, all of Monroe, N.C.; a brother, Clark Phillips III of Port Saint Joe, Fla.; sister, Ann Hise and husband, DeWayne “Butch” of Hot Springs; nephew, Elliott Boyd of Monterey; niece, Crystal Phillips of Weyers Cave; as well as her uncle, John Patterson and wife, Patricia of Cross, S.C.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Hot Springs Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1112, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445.
