James Lee “Jimmy” Moats, 62, died Friday, July 6, 2001 at his second home in Doe Hill.
He was born April 12, 1939, at McDowell, a son of Luther William and Ada Belle (Vandevander) Moats.
On March 28, 1959, he married Jenny Lee Puffenbarger, who preceded him in death on February 7, 2001.
He attended the McDowell United Methodist Church and worked at Rule Volkswagen in Staunton for 22 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and an antique toy and model train collector. He was an inactive member of the McDowell Volunteer Fire Department..
Survivors include his mother, Ada Belle Snyder of McDowell; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Steve Burns; Patsy and Gary Rexrode and Penny and David Booth, all of McDowell; a sister, Shirley Smith of Verona; three brothers, Delmas of Staunton, Richard of Hagerstown, Md., and Carson of Richlands; five grandchildren, Lisa Burns of Staunton, Kevin Burns, Megan Rexrode, Brittany and Kasey Booth, all of McDowell; special uncle, Randolph Moats; special niece, Dorothy Harrington; special nephew, Junior Puffenbarger; special friends, Steve Gray, Howard and Joyce Kelley and Shannon Maloy; a number of nieces and nephews and a large circle of Friends.
A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Obaugh Funeral by the Revs. Jerry Ginn and David Boger with burial in McKendree Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Steve Gray, Harold Griffin, Howard Kelley, Shannon Maloy, Worthie Pitsenbarger, Larry Morris, Abbott Graham and Larry Pennington.
Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren and friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 this evening at the funeral home.
