James Waverley Shifflett

James “Nook” Waverley Shifflett Sr., of Doe Hill, age 56, died Wednesday afternoon, October 28th, 1992 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

He was born April 21st, 1936 in Hermitage, a son of Frank and Bertha Mae (Tyree) Shifflet.

He was self- employed as a painter for a number of years.

Survivors include four daughters, Cindy McDaniel of Monterey, Bonnie Marcum of Staunton, Pamela Kay Shifflett of Lynchburg and Stacy Dawn Pittman of Florida; one son, James W. Shifflett Jr. in the U.S Army; two sisters, Hallie Hite and Geraldine Lowe, both of Staunton; four brothers, Robert of Greenville, Wesley of Staunton, John of Richmond and Maynard Shifflett of Waynesboro; and three grandchildren.

A service will be conducted at Obaugh Funeral home by the Rev. Lester LaPrade. Burial will be in the McKendree Cemetery.

 Pallbearers will be Vernon and Arnold Wooddell, Russell Capps, Lyle Armstrong, Kyle Obaugh, Randolph Samples, James Sponaugle and Marshall Shifflett.
