James Pullin

March 16, 1925 — July 1, 2016

STAUNTON, VA

James Huggard Pullin, 91, of Staunton and formerly of McDowell passed away Friday, July 1, 2016 at Augusta Health.  He was born March 16, 1925 in Highland County a son of the late John Wesley and Eunice Beatrice (Hume) Pullin.

A U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, he served three years in the Pacific Theater on the USS Blue Ridge, Amphibious Group Command, participating in five invasions in the Pacific and two invasions in the Philippines.  He received the Pacific Theater Ribbon (Five Gold Stars), Philippine Liberation Ribbon (Two Silver Stars), American Theater Ribbon, and the Victory Medal.

Mr. Pullin retired from E.I. DuPont Nemours and Company in Waynesboro after 37 years of service and was a member of McDowell Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Jordan, Martha Douglas and Laura Rexrode and his nephews, Earl Douglas and Samuel Rexrode.

He is survived by three sisters, Elizabeth Rexrode of Stuarts Draft Retirement Community, Louise Lockridge and husband, Harry of Verona and Ava Funk and husband, Winton of Fishersville.  As well as nephews, John Herbert Rexrode of Staunton, James Rexrode of Eclectic, AL and Joel Funk of Luray and his nieces, Beth Kingsberry of Stokesvale, NC, Kathy Carpenter of McLean and Jane Yount of Stuarts Draft.  The family wishes to thank his friends, Dee Mumau, Phil Lafollette and Homer Layne for their many visits and acts of kindness.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Obaugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Beth Pyles officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be family and friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
