James Nickolas "Nick" Mason, 37, of Monterey, and formerly of Cleveland, TN passed away on June 24, 2023, while vacationing with his wife in Denali Park, Alaska.
Nick was born on April 25, 1986 in Cleveland, TN the son of Jim and Judy (Matthews) Mason. He was raised in Cleveland where he attended Cleveland High School. From a young age, Nick, who had a passion for fixing automobiles and equipment knew he wanted to be a mechanic. After high school, he completed his education at Nashville Auto Diesel College.
Nick dedicated his career to the truck and automotive industry, serving as an Equipment Technician for Cummins, Kenworth, Coca-Cola, and most recently the Virginia Department of Transportation from 2014 until his untimely passing in 2023. His commitment and expertise were unmatched, and his colleagues held him in high regard.
In his free time, Nick found solace in his hobbies. He had a deep passion for hunting and fishing, finding tranquility in nature. His skills extended beyond the great outdoors, as he had a keen eye for admiring and restoring classic cars. He also had a vast knowledge of firearms and collected many. Furthermore, he possessed a genuine love for music, expressing himself through his guitar collection, often strumming the strings brought him pure joy and contentment. Additionally, Nick embraced the freedom of the open road while riding his motorcycle, relishing the wind against his face.
Nick was a lifelong member of North Cleveland Baptist Church, where he found peace and a sense of belonging within the community of worshippers.
Nick was a devoted husband to Cheyna (Hull) Mason and a loving father to his children Lauren, James, and Tucker Mason. He held his family dear to his heart and leaves behind countless cherished memories.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Glen and Dorothy (Revis) Mason; his maternal grandparents, Jack and Sue (McKay) Matthews; as well as his grandfather-in-law, Olin "Shorty" Waybright.
In addition to his beloved wife of 14 years; three children and parents; surviving family members include a sister, Jessica (Mason) Brown and husband, Michael; as well as a niece, Skye Brown. Nick will also be fondly remembered by his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and his extended Virginia family.
The loss of Nick has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him. His kind and generous spirit, paired with his zest for life, will forever be cherished.
The family will receive friends during a time of visitation and celebration of Nick’s life 5-8 p.m., Friday, July 21, 2023 at Obaugh Funeral Home.
