James Marshall

July 14, 1928 — March 3, 2006

James Howard Marshall, age 77, of Staunton died Friday, March 3, 2006 at Augusta Medical Center.  He was born July 14, 1928 in Highland County a son of the late James Newman and Geneva Mae (Wilfong) Marshall.  On August 20, 1949, he married Lois Waggy.

Mr. Marshall retired from Smith Transfer.  He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.  He attended Christ United Methodist Church and was a charter member and retired lieutenant of the Staunton Reserve Police Department as well as a life-member of Highland VFW.

Mr. Marshall is survived by his wife, Lois Marshall of Staunton; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Dr. Judson Briggs of Dunwoody, GA; three sons and daughters-in-law, James, Jr. and Donna Marshall of Staunton, Daniel and Betty Marshall of Staunton and Steve and Cindy Marshall of Weyers Cave; eleven grandchildren, Jonathan, Wes and his wife, Amanda, Katie, Brandon and his wife, Chris, Nikki, Shane and Logan Marshall, Rebecca, Hunter, Judson, Jr. and Sarah Elizabeth Briggs; a great-grandson, James Wyatt Marshall; two sisters, Martha Hammer of Staunton and Rebecca Eckard of Waynesboro; a brother, Everett Marshall of Mustoe; a special great-niece, Ava Quesenberry and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12 noon, Monday, March 6, 2006 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. John Ashley.  Burial will be at Blue Grass Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be the grandsons and Jason Quesenberry.  Honorary pallbearers will be John Davenport, Bernard White, Bobby Wilfong, Ernie Nuckols, Ward Reubush, Jerry Sheets, Jimmy Coffey, Jimmy Guynn, Joe Marino, Doug Turner, John Jackson, Danny Shreckhise, Ronnie Engleman, Charlie Good, Fred Shultz, Doug Hahn and Max Miller.  The family will receive friends from 4 pm to 6pm, Sunday at the funeral home.
