SERVICE CHANGE MONTEREY, VA James "Jim" Johnson, 90, of Monterey, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born July 5, 1924 in Spotsylvania a son of the late Philip Edward, Sr. and Lillian (Sullivan) Johnson. Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. Following the war, he attended and graduated from the University of Richmond, then went to work for Fruehauf Corp. from which he retired. A member of Highland Baptist Church, Mr. Johnson had served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed chess and time spent reading and listening to music. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and ten brothers. He is survived by his wife, Lois Hope (Gutshall) Johnson, whom he married on December 16, 1952; two daughters, Rev. Jody A. Johnson of Louisville, KY and Lisa J. Kiel and husband, Gary of Lawrenceville, GA; four grandchildren, Christopher James Kiel of Austin, TX, Russell Allen Kiel of San Francisco, CA, Nathan Johnson Kiel of Lawrenceville, GA and Amy Caitlin Kiel of Lawrenceville, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Highland Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Monterey Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Michael Folks, Charles Folks, Nathan Kiel, Gary Kiel, Ed Hershman and Jeff Perdue. There will be no formal visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Highland Baptist Church, 302 Jackson River Rd, Monterey, VA 24465.
