James Boice Hevener, 76, of Monterey, died Friday, January 17, 2003 at his residence.
He was born January 3, 1927 at Glen Ridge, N.J., a son of the late Sommers F. and Helene Boice Hevener.
On May 3, 1952, he married Barbara J. Klein.
Mr. Hevener was a self-employed artist. He was a member and past deacon of the Pisgah Presbyterian Church and a former president of the Monterey Lions Club. He enjoyed playing with the Fiddle and Bow Club. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. In the 1960s and 1970s, he was creative director of advertising with the William Esty Co. in New York. He moved to Highland County in the 1980s to pursue his art and music.
Mr. Hevener was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Hevener and an infant sister.
He is survived his wife, Barbara Hevener of Monterey; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Hevener of Phillipsburg, N.J.; a son and daughter-in-law, John Robert and Terri Lynn Hevener of Monterey; a granddaughter, Sophia Louise Hevener of Monterey; a grandson, James K. Malone of Pennsylvania; a brother Jack Hevener of Ruskin, Fla. and cousins.
The body was cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 25, at Pisgah Presbyterian Church by the Rev. James W. “Bill” Moore and the Rev. C. William “Bill” Cox.
