James “Jim” Edward Blankenship, Sr., 69, of McDowell, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 18, 2024 at August Health in Fishersville.
He was born August 26, 1954, in Baltimore, MD, a son of the late Charles Raymond Blankenship, Jr. and wife, Mildred Cleveland (Leaf) Blankenship.
A dedicated and reliable school bus driver, Jim was employed by Highland County Public Schools, and faithfully transported children to the Weekday Religious Education program every Friday. Jim enjoyed keeping his lawn well-kept, having his “porch-time” and his “perch” to watch nature, and playing golf during his free time. Above all, Jim will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Louette Arline (Heath) Blankenship of McDowell; son, James “Jimmy” Edward Blankenship, Jr. and companion, Traci Elliott of Baltimore, Md.; daughter, Angel May of Virginia.; sister, Sandra Botkin of McDowell; brother, Charles Richard “Rick” Blankenship and wife, Linda of Baltimore, Md.; step-daughter, Melissa Koller of Edgewater, Md.; step-son, Bernard Hirsch III of Edgemere, Md.; seven grandchildren, Brandon, Colby, Kellan, Brett, Cory, Lexi, and Tallula; great-grandson, Asher; four nephews, Joseph, Jamie and wife, Jamison, Kyle, and Eli; as well as two nieces, Abbie and Patti.
A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
