James Clinton Bird, 76, of Hightown, died Wednesday, September 21, 1994 at the Veterans Medical Center in Salem.
He was born March 31, 1918 at Valley Center, a son of James Cecil and Bessie (Scruggs) Bird. On January 18, 1941 he married Margie Hevener.
He was a member of the Hightown United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Henry James of Harrisonburg and Larry Steven Bird of Dayton; two sisters, Annetta of Monterey and Virginia B. Bird of Staunton; one half-sister, Lucille Swartz of Waynesboro; one grandson, one step-granddaughter and one step-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Revs. Richard Gibson and James W. Tinney. Burial will be in Hightown Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be George Bird, Stuart Hiner, George Smith Jr., Bardon Warner, Jacob Hevener and Jimmy Rexrode.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home in McDowell.
