Iva Simmons

Iva Virginia Simmons, 66, died Monday, January 7, 2002 at Augusta Medical Center,

She was born March 15, 1935 at McDowell, a daughter of Grover Cleveland and Lily Mae (McCray) Moats.

She had worked High’s Restaurant and Aileen Garment Factory at Monterey, Tommies Pajama Factor in Staunton and Perdue Farms Inc. in Bridgewater.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Graham Cleveland Simmons, whom she married January 14, 1967, and who died August 2, 1997; two brothers, James Ed Moats and Gilbert Moats; and a sister, Margie VanPelt.

Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia Myers and her husband, Scott, of Swoope; Susie Hanger and her husband, David of Churchville and her fiancé, Chris Rothgeb; a son, Homer Moats and his fiancée, Sharon Altizer of Verona; three special grandchildren, Brandi Simmons and Jonathan and Emily Hanger; two sisters, Lucy Koiner of Staunton and Betty Woolridge of Churchville; three brothers, William Smith of Staunton, Byron Moats of Mount Solon and Cleveland Dune Moats of Woodbridge; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Obaugh Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dennis Sites officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Churchville.

Pallbearers will be Sam Thacker, Billy Michael, Danny Perry, Buddy Sheffer, Rudy Zwecker and Arlen Hanger.

Honorary pallbeares will be Doug Elkins and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
