Iva Simmons

April 14, 1912 — July 19, 2007

Iva Mae Simmons, 95, of Woodbridge, died Thursday, July 19, 2007 at Potomac Hospital.  She was born April 14, 1912 at Monterey, VA a daughter of the late Early Lee and Margaret Catherine (Halterman) Puffenbarger.

Mrs. Simmons was a homemaker.  She was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA

On December 25, 1931, she married Henry Gordon Simmons, who preceded her in death on December 26, 1975.  She was also predeceased by a sister, Rhoda Lambert; two brothers, Forrest and Elmer Puffenbarger and a grandson, Timothy Alan Rigney.

She is survived by four daughters, Nina Mae Helmick of Fredericksburg, VA, Margaret Jane Rigney of Woodbridge, VA, Linda Lou Gardiner of Manassas, VA, and Wanda Gail Rexrode of Franklin, WV; two sons, Elbert Wayne Simmons of Lake Anna, VA and Delbert Blaine Simmons of Stafford, VA; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and a brother, Elbert “Pete” Puffenbarger of Locust Grove, VA.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA, by the Dr. David Rodenhizer.  Burial will be at St. Paul Cemetery in Moyers, WV.

Active pallbearers will be Everett Thompson, Jr., Arlin Moates, Rodger Lee Puffenbarger, Steve Puffenbarger, Aaron Simmons, Terry Stevens, Jr. and Scotty Stevens.  Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to O.W.L. Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, 1306 F Street, Woodbridge, VA 22191.
