Icie Chestnut

Icie Gray Chestnut, 90, died on Tuesday, September 16, 1997 at Augusta Medical Center.

She was born on January 12, 1907, a daughter of Ira Dean and Sallie Estelle (McLaughlin) Gutshall.

She was married to James Otis Chestnut Sr. on December 24, 1924, who died on September 15, 1975.

She was a member of Monterey United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

Surviving are four daughters, Christine Chestnut of Staunton, Anita Cauley of HOt Springs, Juanita Thompson of Monterey and Ila Claytor of Clifton Forge; three sons Carol of Dunmore, WV, Lowell of Dale City and Bobby Lee Chestnut of Stevens City; two sisters, Dehila Armstrong of Staunton and Josephine Fox of Monterey; a brother, Woodrow Gutshall of Staunton; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five sons, Curtis Elwood, James Otis, Jr., Darrel Leon, Lyle Douglas and Stewart Travis Chestnut and two great-grandchildren.

A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Haley with burial in Monterey Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jack Warner, Bill Wagner, Buddy Hunt, Jay Hull, Jerry Rexrode, Steve Stephenson, Jimmy Varner and Gary Rexrode.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home at McDowell.
