Howard Rankin “Rank” Smith, 86, of Adelphi, MD, died Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Hillhaven Nursing Center.
He was born September 9, 1921 in Sugar Grove, WV a son of the late Isaac Clay “Bob” and Rosa Florence (Puffenbarger) Smith.
Mr. Smith was a member of Hyattsville Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a retired brick mason.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Mae (Alvis) Smith; a brother, Virgil “Jack” Smith and a sister, Margie O’Brien.
He is survived by his wife, Delores Del (Alvis) Smith of Adelphi, MD; a daughter and son-in-law, Delana and Paul Blake of Adelphi, MD; three grandsons, Jonathan, Tyler and Hunter Blake, all of Adelphi, MD; two sisters, Elizabeth Painter and Gladys Fockler, both of Staunton, VA; two brothers, Lou Smith and Wilmer Smith, both of McDowell, VA.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Highland Seventh Day Adventist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Elmer Malcolm and G.W. Obaugh.
Active pallbearers will be Craig Smith, Jonathan Blake, Carl Vandevander, Jr., Roger Smith, Larry Smith, Brent Obaugh and G.W. Obaugh.
