BLUE GRASS, VA Hilda Mae Mullenax, 90, of Blue Grass passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at her home. She was born December 5, 1925 at Blue Grass a daughter of the late Edward Clarence and Annie Belle (Stone) Waggoner. Hilda graduated from Blue Grass High School on Monday, May 31, 1943. She had worked as a secretary at Blue Grass Elementary School, as a cook at Four Winds Restaurant in Monterey, and 17 years as a seamstress at the Aileen Sewing Plant. Most of all she was a homemaker, whose greatest joy was crocheting and sharing her craft. A kind and compassionate lady, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and visiting with her friends. She loved gospel music, attending church and her Lord; and always said "Glad to be in the house of the Lord". One of her most memorable experiences will be remembered as her first trip to the beach in 2010. On October 9, 1948, she married George Edward Mullenax, who preceded her in death on April 8, 1983. Additionally, Hilda was predeceased by an infant son and granddaughter, Stephanie Louise Lightner; step-grandson, Craig Puffenbarger; four sisters, Glenna Waggoner, Thelma Puffenbarger, Marie Arbogast and Doris Hannah; and three brothers, Max Waggoner, Ivan Waggoner and Roy L. Waggoner, Sr. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann M. and Herman Puffenbarger of Blue Grass, with whom she lived since 1990 and Dorothy M. and David Lightner of Monterey; four grandchildren, Misty P. Goodbar and husband, Kevin of Monterey, Nicole Lane Puffenbarger of Monterey, Robert Lightner and wife, Davina of Monterey and Jacob Lightner of Monterey; step-granddaughter, Vickie P. Newton of Roanoke; great- grandson, Kaden Ray Wimer; great-granddaughter, Carly Jo Pappalardo; and soon to arrive great-granddaughter Goodbar; brother-in-law, Leo Mullenax of Franklin, WV; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be conducted 4 p.m., Friday, March 18, 2016 at Blue Grass United Methodist Church with the Rev. Andre Crummett officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Grass Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Robert Lightner, Jacob Lightner, J.R. Botkin, Kevin Wimer, Kevin Goodbar and Bob Rawley. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Obaugh Funeral Home.
