Herman "Soupy" Campbell

May 10, 1918 — April 9, 2000

Herman W. “Soupy” Campbell, 81, of Monterey, died Sunday, April 9, 2000 at his residence.

He was born May 10, 1918 in Sterling, son of Herman W. and Bessie R. Campbell.

He was retired from the U.S. Navy as Chief Boatswain’s Mate and was awarded the Purple Heart after his ship was bombed at Pearl Harbor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lauretta L. Campbell, in 1992.

Survivors include a sister, Jean C. Callison of Monterey; and a brother, Guy M. Campbell of Lutherville, Md.

A graveside service was conducted Thursday, April 13 at 11 a.m. at Leeds Cemetery, Markham, by the Rev. Timothy Teates, a cousin.
