Henry Pitsenbarger

December 3, 1914 — February 18, 2000

Henry Clay Pitsenbarger, 85, of Amherst, died Friday morning, February 18, 2000 at Lynchburg General Hospital following a long illness.

He was born December 3, 1914 at Moyers, W.Va., a son of William James and Phoebe Jane (Hoover) Pitsenbarger, who preceded him in death as well as three sisters and six brothers.

Having graduated from bot the University of West Virginia and Madison College, he began his teaching career in a one room school in West Virginia and completed 34 years teaching in Amherst County. He was a member of the Amherst Baptist Church and past member of the Amherst Rescue Squad. He served in the US Air Force.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Virginia Me (Rexrode) Pitsenbarger of Amherst; three sons and daughters-in-law, Wendell and Rebecca Pitsenbarger of Amherst, Harold and Susan Pitsenbarger of Amherst and MSGT. Larry and Ruth of Bellevue, Ne.; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Delroy Artman of Berwick, Pa.; and six grandsons, John Kerns IV, Dr. Robert Kerns,; Christopher, Benjamin and Timothy Artman and Matthew Pitsenbarger.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 20, 2000 at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. William E. Dawson II.

Burial will be in the St. Paul Cemetery near Moyers, W.Va.

Active pallbearers will be Everett, Ronnie, Harvey and Arthur Wade Pitsenbarger, Dwight Moyers and Philip Radar. Honorary pallbearers will be friend attending.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Saturday evening at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Amherst Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 193 or the Amherst Baptist Church Building Fund, Second St., Amherst, Va. 24521.
