Henry Babcock

Henry Ame Babcock of Monterey died at his home on Thursday, October 23, 2003.

Mr. Babcock was born in Rushville, Ill. On February 23, 1917, the son of Caroline G. and Henry Ame Babcock. He had no siblings.

He attended the Colorado School of Mines, where he later taught basic engineering for 36 years. He earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado, becoming a world authority on the hydraulic transportation of solids.

In 1939, he married Margaret Ann Taylor of Midwest, Wyo., who preceded him in death in 1985.

Though exempt from military service, he enlisted in the Navy in May of 1944.

He is survived by two sons, Henry Ame Babcock of Northfield, Vt. and John Garrison Babcock of Wheatridge, Colo. And two daughters, Margaret Ann Babcock and Caroline B. Smith, both of Monterey. Also surviving him are a son-in-law, Douglas Smith of Monterey; two daughters-in-law, Patricia K. Babcock of Vermont and Jeanne T. Babcock of Colorado and five grandchildren, Laura and Robin Smith and Eleanor, Edward and Emmy-Lou Babcock.

Following cremation in Virginia, a memorial will be held in Golden, Co.
