Harold Stuart Cupp, 81, of Sugar Grove, WV passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024 at the home of his son in Bridgewater.
He was born in Rockingham County, December 1, 1942, a son of the late Leon Stuart and Pauline Catherine (Howdyshell) Cupp. On November 2, 1974, he married Anna Norene Eckard, who preceded him in death on February 20, 2023.
A devout Christian, Mr. Cupp attended St. Paul Independent Lutheran Church. He spent 43 years employed with Ethan Allen Furniture Company, retiring as a supervisor. A gifted musician, Harold played the bass guitar in many local bands, including the Berry Family Band. Additionally, he enjoyed time spent hunting, fishing, woodworking, or simply sitting on his porch watching wildlife and passing cars.
Raised on a farm in Rockingham County, Harold never strayed far from his roots. He enjoyed raising a garden, operating his Farmall and International tractors, and was always excited to help local farmers in the hay meadows. Many will also remember him as a selfless, good-natured man who liked a good laugh and was full of humor, but was not afraid to speak his mind when he believed it necessary.
Above all, Harold will be remembered as a role model to his son and grandson, a constant provider and supporter of his family, and a loving father who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by sons, Michael Cupp and wife, Joyce of Bridgewater and Douglas Botkin and wife, Sandra of Churchville; grandchildren, Wesley Cupp of Bridgewater and Douglas Dean Botkin and wife, Brianna of Churchville; great-grandchildren, Lilly, Alex and Piper Botkin; sisters, Marie C. Huffer of Bridgewater, Carolyn J. Petit of Weyers Cave and Judy F. Puffenbarger of Mount Solon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, March 22, 2024 in St. Michael’s Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Smith officiating.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Cupp, Zack Eckard, Travis Petit, Kenny Puffenbarger, Dwayne Berry and Teresa Martin.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Thursday, March 21st at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell.
