Graham Cleveland "Paw-Paw" Simmons, 67, died Saturday morning, August 2, 1997 at Augusta Medical Center.
Mr. Simmons was born in Highland County on February 25, 1930, a son of Bobby Jake and LouElla (Simmons) Simmons. On January 14, 1967 he married Virginia Moats Simmons who survives.
In addition to his wife he is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia and Mike Simmons of Swoope, Susie and David Hanger of Churchville and Ethel Simmons of Churchville; four sons, Homer Moats and Sharon Altizer of Verona, Roger Simmons of McDowell, Dale Simmons of Md. and Dickie Simmons of Va.; brother, Jake Simmons of Roanoke; sister, Berta Moran of Staunton; and five grandchilren, Brandi Simmons, Jonathan Hanger, Roger Simmons Jr., Chrissy Simmons and Bobby Jo Simmons.
Mr. Simmons served in the U.S. Marines in the Korean War, he was a retired truck driver for Augusta Block Company.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Dennis Sites.
Burial will be in the Green Hill Cemetery in Churchville.
Active pallbearers will be Sam Thacker, A.W. Simmons, Johnny Botkin, Doug Elkins, Melvin Humphries and Kirk Humphries.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Botkin, Wilson Moran, Arlie Simmons, Joe Truslow, Billy Michael, Bobby Riley, Cleveland "Dune" Moats and Eric Nuckols.
Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by a brother, Roscoe Simmons and two sisters Dorothy Simmons and Clara Breeden.
The family received friends Monday evening at Obaugh Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Churchvilee Fire and Rescue Squad.
Mr. Simmons had two special fishing buddies, Sam Thacker and Arlie Simmons; and a special brother-in-law, Cleveland "Dune" Moats.
