Grady Roberts Sr.

November 27, 1931 — January 27, 2008

Grady Allen Roberts, Sr., 76, of Burnsville, died Sunday, January 27, 2008 at Bath Community Hospital.  He was born November 27, 1931 at Burnsville a son of the late Clarence Lacy and Mary Virginia (Pullin) Roberts.

On December 1, 1950, he married Lula “Duke” (Spitler) Roberts, who preceded him in death on September 12, 2003.  He was also predeceased by three brothers, Lacy, Randall and Cletis Roberts and a great-grandson, Samuel Salmons.

Mr. Roberts was a logger.  He was a member of the Burnsville United Methodist Church and former member of Cavern Valley Civic Center and Burnsville Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Skip Allen of Burnsville, Vicky and Paul Simmons of Hightown, Franny and David Neil of McDowell, Gail and Sammy Ervin of McDowell and Kay Smith of Hightown and Larry Smith of McDowell; a son and daughter-in-law, Grady, Jr. and Wanda Roberts of Burnsville; thirteen grandchildren, Kim Alexander, Troy Allen, Misty Nelson, Jennifer Peters, Jessica Liller, Amy Good, Timmy Neil, Tara Ryder, Amber Whitelaw, Morgan Ervin and Eric, Derek and Kelly Smith; eight great-grandchildren, Meghan Brown, Brook and Cole Nelson, Zalea Good, Jonah Salmons, Zackery Ellinger, Arianna Whitelaw and Bailey Peters; a sister, Maudy Schurtz; three brothers, Richard, Roscoe and Raymond Roberts; special nephew, Danny Ray Roberts and special friends, Brenda Cauley, Linda Roberts and Mary Ayers.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at Burnsville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Byong H. Ahn and the Rev. Donald Lee Altizer.  Burial will be in the Burnsville Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Sam, Michael and Jeff Roberts, Leonard and Danny Neil, Billy Allen, Roger Smith and Johnny Schaeffer.  Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell.
