Grace Griffin

Grace Margaret Griffin, 89, of the Vanderpool Community of Highland County, died Friday, December 6, 2002 at The Springs Nursing Center.

She was born December 4, 1913 at Mustoe a daughter of the late J. Robert and Altie Slayton Griffin.

Miss Griffin was a member of The Highland Baptist Church. After retiring from a position in Washington, D.C. in 1976, she opened a store, “Griffin’s Place” near Monterey, which she owned and operated up to a few months prior to her death.

She was a talented landscape artist.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Bertha Williams, Janet Grogg and Gertie Johnson and a brother, Walter L. Griffin.

She is survived by a brother, Richard L. Griffin of Staunton and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, December 9, 2002 at the Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Jerry Ginn and the Rev. Donald Rose. Burial will be in the Monterey Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be James Varner, Gene Moyers, Gary Hull, Buddy Hunt, Carlton Hull, Ronnie White, David Lightner, Ben Stephenson, Junior Gumm and Junior Cauley.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 268, Monterey, Va. 24465.
