Glenn Edwin Darnell, 81, of Moyers, WV passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He was born June 21, 1929 in Roanoke County a son of the late Glenn Baylor and Nannie Virginia (Wassum) Darnell.
Mr. Darnell served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of Totten Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a high performance driving instructor for NASCAR and a former Fire Chief for 17 years at Laytonsville, MD Volunteer Fire Department and for 10 years at McDowell Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid bear hunter, tractor puller and loved to restore antique tractors and build race cars.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Darnell, whom he married on September 23, 1954; two daughters, Lisa D. Jamison and husband, Michael of Moyers, WV and Alicia Head and husband, Jason of Mooresville, NC; two sons, Brad Darnell of Falls Church and David Darnell and wife, Heather of Alabaster, AL; two grandsons, James Lyle Darnell and Brayden Glenn Head; a sister, Betty Janney of Roanoke; two brothers, Warren Darnell of Roanoke and Tommy Darnell and wife, Frances of Charlottesville and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Totten Chapel United Methodist Church, c/oTeresa Hannon, 388 Hessian Lane, Staunton, VA 24401.
